Pelvic Floor Essentials

Pelvic floor health is exploding – and your clients are asking questions!

If you work in any capacity within the birthing world, now is your chance to become more familiar with how the pelvic floor works during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. Though unseen, pelvic health problems (such as leaking, pelvic organ prolapse, persistent vulvo-vaginal conditions, painful sex, diastasis recti, and more) are extremely common in our society

These problems are disruptive, financially costly, negatively impact quality of life, and unfortunately, largely accepted as normal. Many pelvic health conditions that individuals face originate during their reproductive years. They occur due to one or multiple pregnancies, the process of childbirth, and the physical demands of the postpartum period. Research is also showing a significant link between pelvic floor dysfunction and other challenges such as: depression, anxiety, relationship strain, loss of self-image, ongoing disability, reduced participation in exercise and activity, decreased job performance, altered recreational and leisure activities, and more. All this is to say that pregnancy and childbirth can have a massive impact on the health and well being of your clients. Sometimes problems show up right after birth. Other times, they manifest later in life.

Thankfully, pelvic floor dysfunction can be treated. However, it is even better if it can be minimized or prevented in the first place. This is where you come in. Pregnancy is the key moment to change the trajectory of someone’s pelvic health story. During this window of opportunity, many families are the most conscious of health and the most open to preventative care.

One of your roles is to support your clients with accurate information and to offer helpful strategies for their physical, mental, and emotional health. But to do that, you need to get the facts straight. THAT is the goal of this course!

First of all it’s great to be able to see/hear you guys especially as a home-study person and secondly so much of the content is covering stuff I was really wondering about (e.g what is meant by emotional support, and the nuances of relationship building with primary care folks). Loving it!!
