What our students are saying...

“Julia is a fantastic teacher. She created a warm and community-like environment. I learned many skills and tools that I will use in my yoga classes, in my life and perhaps in my own pregnancy. I especially found learning her mindfulness and awareness based approach very valuable. This course is very thorough and addressed the various aspects of pregnancy: physiological, anatomical, psychological and spiritual. I highly recommend this course!”

“This school offers a well designed and presented training. Julia is incredibly knowledgeable and brings forth her expertise and experience in a thoughtful and nurturing way. I liked learning the changes that occur in each stage of pregnancy. In this course I discovered the value of living the life I want to live now, discovered my unique gifts that I have to offer to my students and how mindfulness brings about a deeper way of living an authentic life. ”

New Zealand

“Julia really cared about our personal growth as teachers. The environment that she created gave a feeling of community and intimacy that created a perfect foundation for our exploration of prenatal yoga. With years of experience as a yogi, yoga teacher, doula and prenatal teacher, Julia brings lots of knowledge and authentic care for each participant. She draws upon her real-life experience. I have learned more than I ever expected and feel so grateful for that.”

“Loved my course with Awakened Spirit so much that I have signed on for several more since. Thanks for the great work you’re putting out there into the world :)”

- Avani Gilbert

I took my 85 hour prenatal yoga teacher training combined with a birth doula training with Awakened Spirit Yoga and I was blown away by the quality and variety of teaching staff. I especially enjoyed the rich learning environment that was created for the online learning environment. They have developed an interactive way of teaching that makes you feel as if you are meeting one another in person. I highly recommend this program and I have recommended it to many of my friends who teach.

What you'll love about Lake Atitlán

San Marcos la Laguna is a small Mayan village on Lake Atitlán in the western highlands of Guatemala. It has become a Mecca for international travellers attracted by its beauty, tranquility and diverse options for spiritual exploration and therapy. Terraced into the side of a cliff, The Yoga Forest is a twenty five minute hike up into the valley from Lake Atitlán. To escape to our lush tropical food forest please travel to us with a backpack, organic soaps, a head torch and a spirit of adventure.

The Yoga Forest is a sacred sanctuary with ancient Mayan altars and natural springs that have been protected as a Natural Reserve in order to honour the land and the heritage of its people. Take your time here to connect to Mother Earth and create space for transformation and self healing while enjoying the peace and tranquility of mountains looking out over the lake towards volcanoes San Pedro, Toliman and Atitlán. This is a unique retreat space within a tropical forest with amazing views, comfortable beds, delicious vegetarian meals, daily yoga and meditation and friendly community living.

The shared cabañas at The Yoga Forest accommodate four people, in large single beds. Using natural building techniques, the cabañas are constructed with either bamboo or cypress, palm roof and natural adobe walls or traditional bahareque (wattle and daub) of this area. The beds are comfortable, with warm feather duvets and pillows, and decorated with Peruvian Shipibo fabrics and Guatemalan Cushions. Frequently asked questions

The prerequisites for the online yoga teacher trainings is only that you must be passionate and inspired to create a community of likeminded people who want to help support and guide others safely through the practice of yoga. We only ask that you are dedicated and feel compelled to answer this very sacred call.

It is helpful to have prior teaching experience but isnt necessary. Much of the course and the postures are referred to in sanskrit and english terminology. It’s certainly recommended to have a previous practice of the asana or postures as the course content will flow with more ease and understanding and be able to assimilate the information more quickly.

Upon successful completion, you are eligible to register with the Yoga Alliance as a registered prenatal yoga teacher (RPYT), and will be certified to teach yoga internationally. Plese note that the Yoga Alliance also requires a certain number of teaching hours to complete your registration.

As an internationally recognized and certified school, the certificate will state you have completed the yoga teacher training program under the guidance of julia forest.

Yes, we offer the sacred birth prenatal yoga as a stand alone in a live virtual and also self-paced program. The yoga and conscious birthing curriculum is the same in both programs.

It does! If you finish the course requirements in the allotted time you can qualify as a registered prenatal yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance.

Once you complete your 200 hour YTT you can retroactively register your RPYT with the Yoga Alliance. It will still count!

Once you are done our program you can call yourself a doula. If you choose to certify you will complete additional requirements including a practicum, required reading, etc. All of our students appreciate the birth content even if they don’t go on to work as doulas.

We run different iteneraries for this course. Please check our schedule for more details.

Yes 🙂 our course counts for continuing education with the Yoga Alliance and also you can upgrade your Yoga Alliance membership to registered prenatal yoga teacher (RPYT)

Questions about traveling to Guatemala

La aurora international airport is a 4-4.5 hour drive from lake atitlán. Some people plan to go directly from the airport to training, which starts at 4pm on the first day, while others choose to stay in antigua for a night to decompress, and then go to the lake the next day.

If you are interested in arriving earlier please reach out to us for more info.

We can help set up a shuttle for your arrival. Pricing is based on the number of shared participants. Please reach out for more details.

We have very limited time off during the course due the volume of content for us to review. We will have one afternoon with a planned group activity and/or some free time.

Full participation is required to complete the program and to receive your Yoga Alliance certification. Three hours of missed classes with a valid reason will be excused without makeup. Any additional hours missed will require communication with a facilitator and an action plan as to how hours can be completed. Additional costs may incur if one-on-one facilitator time is required to make up hours.

At the end of the course, you will receive your certificate of attendance for doula training. Once you’ve met the in-person and online course requirements for the yoga portion you will receive that certificate as well.
