Samantha Whitman

Birth and Postpartum Trainer, Admin Team

Introduction

Outside of her doula work, Sam (she/her) loves spending time with her family, including their 5 year old and newborn. They run a small organic farm on their property and explore all that Newfoundland has to offer. They try to travel and explore other parts of the world whenever they can, but also love spending time in their own tiny home that they built together.

Originally from Nova Scotia, her working career started out as a lifeguard and paramedic, but always wanting to support birthing families since she witnessed her nephew being born at the age of 10. After moving to Newfoundland and working for over a decade on ambulances, work as a doula was calling for her and advocacy for families across the province began. She has since supported families in many hospitals and home births across Central Newfoundland and supported Doula Canada students around the world.

Background

Her work as a doula has filled her cup many times over as she supports families in an ever evolving health care system.

She has also become a La Leche League Leader, been involved in the re-implementation of Midwifery back in the province and been on the Board for the Doula Collective of Newfoundland and Labrador. Lots has been accomplished, but still lots of work to be done! The work she does with Doula Canada allows her to support doulas across the country and around the world, helping to support even more families indirectly through all of the incredible work all of you are accomplishing!

Sam is always easy to reach and happy to support you! Feel free to connect any time with questions or if you need any additional support.
